Platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) (Ornithorhynchidae: Platypus)
The Platypus and the Australian water rat are the only two amphibious mammals in Australia. The Platypus is one of two egg laying mammals found in Australia. The other is the Echidna. It is totally unique in appearance. platypus catch small insects, snails, worms and the like on the bottom of water bodies in which they live. They come to the surface to breath and chew their catch before going back for more.
