Humpback Whales - mothers with calves, from land, mid-north coast NSW, Australia
Each winter Humpbacked Whales migrate up the east and west coasts of Australia to give birth in warm tropical waters. In spring they return southwards, mothers with calves. They often stick very close to the coast and can be easily seen from coastal headlands along the way - as here. The young ones are often very playful and frequently breach the water surface.
